? What’s Happening
Sometimes you might see a pop-up claiming your computer is infected with a virus.
It may include a phone number or a button that says “Fix Now” or “Scan.”
These alerts are fake — they come from websites that trick you into allowing browser notifications.
? Good news: Your computer isn’t infected. You just need to stop the notifications.
? Step 1: Close the Browser Tab or Window
Don’t click anything inside the pop-up.
Do not call any phone numbers or click “Scan” or “Clean.”
Instead, close the entire browser:
On Windows: Press Alt + F4
On Mac: Press Command + Q
If the pop-up won’t close, open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and end the browser process.
⚙️ Step 2: Clear the Notification Permission
Google Chrome
Click the three dots ⋮ in the top-right corner → Settings
Go to Privacy and Security → Site Settings → Notifications
Find any unfamiliar or suspicious websites (e.g., virus-alerts-now.xyz)
Click the three dots next to each → Remove or Block
? Step 3: Optional Cleanup
To be safe:
Run your antivirus (e.g., Windows Defender → Quick Scan)
Clear browser history and cache:
Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + Delete
✅ Step 4: Stay Safe in the Future
Never click “Allow” on random pop-ups asking for notifications.
If a site says your computer is infected, it’s almost always a scam.
Use official antivirus tools only.
